SUMMARY:Protecting the public from abusive AI-generated content
DESCRIPTION:#AItowards2040 AI presents both significant challenges and immense opportunities. The current EU mandate presents a unique opportunity to harness the power of AI for the benefit of European citizens and the European economy, driving innovation and competitiveness. However, AI like any technology is not immune from misuse, and those likely to benefit from it, are also at risk of abuse, especially children, women and older adults. Already, we see the proliferation of synthetic child sexual abuse material, AI-powered scams increasingly targeting older adults, and the weaponization of synthetic non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII) against women. The start of the new EU mandate, and the efforts around simplification, offers a chance to reflect on how best to leverage the AI opportunity, all the while meaningfully implementing the existing EU rulebook to protect individuals. At this EIF breakfast, we will discuss how all of society, including industry, government, and civil society can best respond to the misuse of AI through the lens of these three key risk areas: Protecting children from online exploitation Safeguarding women from non-consensual intimate imagery Safeguarding older adults, especially against AI-enabled fraud
