The recent global chips shortage has disrupted supply chains, caused product shortages ranging from cars to medical devices, and in some cases even forced factories to close. The European Chips Act, adopted by the Commission in February 2022, seeks to strengthen European semiconductor ecosystem by ensuring the EU's security of supply, resilience and technological leadership. The Chips Act is supposed to reinforce EU’s innovation, competitiveness and open strategic autonomy. Improved semiconductor supply chain resiliency requires active collaboration between public and private sector, with an aim to increase investments to expand capacity. Speakers at the event representing both industry and policy makers will explain critical role that chips play in the modern economy; take stock of the global semiconductors market; and evaluate Europe’s place in the supply chain. Together we will debate about appropriate policy measures to achieve EU’s ambitious objectives, including how to incentivise the growth of the local ecosystem, how to best leverage existing European assets in the semiconductor space, how to coordinate plans with international partners in transatlantic and global relations.
