Since 1990, Janine Costa has been an Education High Officer specialized in European Affairs and International Relations at the Portuguese Ministry of Education.

Currently, and since 2019 she is the Education Attaché and the Coordinator for Education, Youth and Sport at the Portuguese Permanent Representation to the European Union.

Between 2009 and 2019, she was the Director for the Coordination of Cooperation and International Relations at the General Secretariat for Education and Science in Portugal.

Throughout her professional career, Janine Costa has worked within international relations, and in particular European affairs, in the fields of education and training, as well as, for the past year, in the areas of youth and sport.

For almost twenty years, she has been the Portuguese representative in numerous groups, network and committees of several international organizations such as the UE, OCDE, Council of Europe and UNESCO, namely at the EU Education Committee, EU Socrates, LLP and Erasmus+ Committee programme, EU High Level Group on Education and Training Policies, OCED Education Policy Committee, and CoE Steering Committee for Educational Policy and Practice.
