Wider connectivity is necessary for Europe to allow new technologies to seamlessly reach all citizens. No less than €174 billion in investments are needed to meet the ambitious goals set out by the Commission in its flagship Digital Decade’s initiative. From digitalization to quantum computing and 5G coverage, Europe has strong ambitions to become a digital leader and compete on the global stage.But there are questions about consumer, businesses, and SMEs demand for these technologies as well as larger questions of digital inclusion and providing connection across Europe. Concerns about internet accessibility, following rising cost of living, might challenge these objectives. What role could policy and even public funding play in connectivity?
