Dr. Patrick Breyer is a jurist and since 2019 a Member of the European Parliament with the European Pirates, members of the Greens/European Free Alliance group. He is a long-term activist in the civil liberties movemet for consumer and citizen rights, especially as regards privacy, citizen participation and democracy. From 2012 to 2017, he was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein State Parliament for the Pirate Party, and temporarily chaired the parliamentary group. He is a member of the NGO Arbeitskreis Vorratsdatenspeicherung (Working Group on Data Retention) and author of the blog ‘Daten-Speicherung.de – minimum data, maximum privacy’.
