On 19 November EIF members and friends met to discuss the outcomes of IGF 2014 in Istanbul, their significance for European policymakers and the challenges ahead for 2015 as well as the opportunity for the EU to present a united front on what promises to be crucial debates for the continuation of a healthy internet for the benefit of all.

Pilar del Castillo, MEP, EIF Chair and Head of the European Parliament delegation to IGF, hosted this timely event.

Sally Costerton, Head of Stakeholder Engagement at ICANN presented the recent changes in the organization as ICANN goes through the internationalization process. She encouraged everyone to get involved in the transition process via ICANN.org. She also announced the ICANN Accountability review ‘to ensure accountability, transparency and the interests of global Internet users'.

Megan Richards, Principal Adviser at the European Commission and Head of the European Commission delegation to IGF, elaborated on the political element of  internet governance. She called for support to strengthen EuroDIG - the Pan-European dialogue on Internet governance.  She also encouraged guests of the event to join forces in spreading the word about the importance of internet governance.

Victor Silveira Braoios, First Secretary of the Brazilian Mission to the EU, presented Brazil’s position on internet governance and IGF. He also expressed support for ICANN transition. Brazil and EU share the same view on the structure of internet governance, Mr Silveira Braoios concluded.
