On 26th September, EIF & MEP Pilar del Castillo hosted an exchange of views with European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Mariya Gabriel, on her policy priorities and future initiatives.

Ms Gabriel used this opportunity to give an overview of the next steps of the EU Digital Agenda and highlight the European Parliament’s crucial role in putting a human face to EU actions. The EU and its Members States have committed to the full implementation of the Digital Single Market Strategy by the end of 2018.

The Commissioner stressed that a strong Digital Single Market requires a high level of investment in people and infrastructure. In her view, the European Union will play a frontline role in setting the world’s digital agenda, thus actions taken for the single market will have international repercussions.
